How to Address Neighbourhood Slobs…

Caves Heights, West Bay Street, Nassau and Paradise Island Bahamas

A beautiful home, breath-taking views and a well looked after area: these are only but a few commodities that make any homeowner content with their purchase. But what about the flaws that come with it? Untidy, noisy, schlump neighbours should be the least of your worries. Now, what happens when it gets to a point where you cannot handle it anymore? It is important to choose the safest and most effective ways to communicate your grievances with your neighbours, making sure there is a suitable outcome for everyone.

Most communities have laws and country legislation that deals with pet maintenance, disruptions and privacy. Once those rules are broken, it may result in payable fines or further legal consequences. Ultimately, locals need to work together to provide an orderly neighbourhood with conventional living conditions for everyone. So, if you find yourself in a situation where you are dealing with a slug neighbourhood, here are a few pointers on how to deal with it.

Offer Assistance Where You Can

You may come across neighbours who are not cultivated on how to take care of their surroundings, which can work in your favour, should they accept a lending hand. Connect with them in a way where they will feel free and encouraged to approach you when they need assistance or advice on how to maintain their property. This can open up the eyes of the rest of the neighbourhood to be friendly and considerate to those around them.

Contact Your HOA

Among the duties of a Homeowners Associations (HOA) is to maintain the standard of the community. They are a group of individuals who are there to solve problems and be an aid when needed. The HOA will be able to issue notices in the case the disorder continues. People may be more responsive to a more established figure in the community. The HOA is to minimally ensure compliance with its Deed of Covenants and Restrictions.

Install a Fence

Try blocking your view with a fence or new landscaping for a sense of privacy and eliminating the sight from your everyday life. This can also make your home more appealing, should you sell it in the future.

Common nuisances that are likely to be reported include noise, overgrown yards, broken down and deserted cars, on-street parking violations, drainage path alterations, vacant houses, pets roaming etc. Make an effort to not be part of the crowd that violates and discourages the standards of the community. Instead, work together with other locals to uphold the dignity of what you call home.
