8 Qualities Of A Good Real Estate Agent

The work of real estate has many players on the field. There are property managers, accountants, inspectors, mortgage loan assistants, and most importantly real estate agents. Many estate agents aim to be the best in the game for their clients and their reputations; however, there are qualities that high-grade agents possess to be successful in their work. Below are a few pointers to use when looking for an excellent real estate agent.

  1. Communication

As an agent, you spend a lot of time consulting and talking to clients, vendors and other service providers. You must have good communication skills to understand the interests and needs of the client. Being able to discuss and understand ideas brought to the table makes it easier to work together, otherwise precious time is wasted.

2. Negotiation Skills

One of the requirements to be a well-respected agent is the ability to negotiate. In the process of buying or selling property, the listing price, selling price and commission are discussed.  One party may not agree with the original price, meaning a negotiation needs to take place to arrive at an agreed price.

3. Integrity and Honesty

An important characteristic to have as a professional in any industry is honesty. Being moral, ethical and having integrity attracts clients with similar characteristics, resulting in a working partnership. Remember your reputation is always on the line. If people hear that you are a dishonest agent, it creates a malignant name for you and the brand you are building.

4. Networking Skills

Knowing someone who knows someone gets you far. The people you have in your network who are also in your industry can be an asset to you and your business. Being able to connect with others and throw around ideas to build each other’s networks benefits everyone. These can be considered referrals.

5. Understanding the Market

If you know nothing about the property market, you are in big trouble. A top performing agent utilizes their resources to keep up to date on property market news and changes. Be sure to familiarize yourself with the local market and more specifically, your farm area, the different rules and regulations in communities and research the things you do not understand.

6. Passion

An agent should have the passion for serving their client in the best way possible. Real estate often requires long hours and a lot of groundwork. Staying motivated to bring good results not only makes your clients trust you more but also increases the chances of working with you again in the future or even referrals being sent your way.

7. Attention to Detail

In real estate, you need to have a good eye. Not being efficient with your duties gives you average results and creates distrust between you and your client. If you are organized, attentive, communicate well and do follow-ups, you will close more deals.

8. Fit the Profile!

It may not be as important to some people, but how you dress and present yourself to your client goes a long way. If you look like someone professional, respectful, sophisticated and confident, people you come across will treat you that way.

Lastly, keep in mind that you get what you give out. You may not have all these qualities, but giving yourself room to improve and develop will help turn things around. Keep yourself up-to-date with changes in the real estate industry. Invest time, money, resources and energy into improving your profession and watch yourself flourish in all you put your mind to.
